John Healey MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Housing and Planning, responding to a new cross-party House of Lords report that criticises the Government’s ‘short-sighted’ housing policies, said:
“This report is yet another sign of growing cross-party opposition to this extreme Bill and the damaging provisions it contains.
"The House of Lords committee echoes many of the concerns that Labour has been voicing for months: that this Bill will reduce the number of genuinely affordable homes, undermine mixed communities and destroy families’ stability.
“The committee is blunt in saying that current Government policies are short-sighted and will not meet housing needs.
"As the Housing Bill passes through the House of Lords, Tory Ministers should listen to the growing opposition from their own side and rethink their damaging plans.
