I urge Government to admit defeat & drop these pernicious plans - Angela Eagle

Angela Eagle MP,Labour’s Shadow First Secretary of State and Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, responding to the news that Labour will be joined by the SNP in voting against the Government’s planned changes to Sunday trading in the Enterprise Bill, said:

“I am absolutely delighted that good sense seems to have prevailed in the SNP group and that they have decided to join Labour, Tory rebels and others in the division lobbies in opposition to the deregulation of Sunday trading.

“Labour has led the fight against the Tories’ sweeping changes. Defeating the Government will be a victory for all of those who support the current arrangements which work well and mean retailers can trade, customers can shop, and shop workers can spend time with their families.

“I now urge the Government to admit defeat and even at this late hour drop these pernicious plans.”
