Alan Johnson, Chair of Labour in for Britain, commenting on the news Unite are backing Britain’s EU membership, said:

“The Labour Party and the trade union movement have been at the forefront of fighting for stronger rights for working people both here in Britain and throughout Europe.

“British workers, businesses and consumers are better off in Europe. We also know that the investment that Britain attracts as a member of the European Union and a gateway to the continent is crucial in creating more jobs and prosperity here.

“That’s why Labour are united on this campaign and why I am delighted to see Unite make it clear that they will also be campaigning for Britain to remain in the EU.”
