Heidi Alexander MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Health, responding to the announcement that UNISON are supporting Remaining in the EU said:

“With 1.3 million members working in our vital public services, UNISON are right to make the case that nurses, cleaners and carers are protected by remaining in the EU.

“The voice of the millions of men and women represented by UNISON will be incredibly important in this campaign. From parental leave, paid holiday, protection for part-timers and limits on excessive hours – Britain’s membership of the European Union is vital to working people and to our public services.

“Labour is looking forward to campaigning with UNISON members from health, local government, education, energy and police branches to make the case for Britain’s EU membership.”
