Angela Eagle MP, Shadow First Secretary of State and Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, speaking following the international summit on steel, said:
“The UK is facing a steel crisis. This is in large part due to the dumping of Chinese steel at below the cost of production. It is undermining the industry in the UK, it is not fair, and it needs to stop.
“But it is increasingly clear that the Chinese Government are not willing to take action to curb over-production.
“The Tory Government have so far failed to take the action necessary to save our steel - they’ve even been blocking EU efforts to stop dumping. Following the apparent failure of this summit, the Government needs to stand up to China and stand up for our steel industry.”
