Diana Johnson MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for the Middle East, commenting on the vote on genocide and Daesh, said:

“While Government Ministers abstained, the House of Commons has spoken with a clear and unanimous voice today. There is no doubt that Daesh is killing people because they belong to ethnic, racial or religious groups. What they are doing has all the hallmarks of genocide as well as crimes against humanity and war crimes.

“The British Government must now urgently push the UN Security Council to immediately refer these crimes to the International Criminal Court.”
