Hilary Benn MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, responding to a cross-party international development committee report criticising the Government’s handling of the conflict in Yemen, said:
“The cross-party International Development Committee report could not be clearer in its criticism of the Government’s approach to the conflict.
“Ministers should now support an independent inquiry into alleged violations of international humanitarian law in Yemen and immediately suspend all arms sales to Saudi Arabia until it has concluded.
“Given the mounting evidence about potential war crimes using British-made weapons and the terrible impact on civilians, the Government has taken far too long to act in line with its own rules. It is not too late for them to do so now.”
