Labour responds to Boris Johnson’s comments this morning
Heidi Alexander MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to Boris Johnson’s comments that leaving the EU would mean more money for the NHS, said:
“It’s completely disingenuous for Boris to claim that the NHS would be better off if we were to leave the European Union.
“The truth is leaving the EU could have very serious consequences for our NHS. A vote to leave risks less money to spend on hospital services, cuts to staff and patient care suffering as a result.
“It is pretty ironic that Boris Johnson is now claiming he wants to save the NHS given that he has previously advocated charging for NHS services. He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and no one should be fooled by his bogus claims.“
Seema Malhotra MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on Boris Johnson’s comments that he wants to quit the European Single Market, said:
"These are shocking comments from Boris Johnson that expose the huge risk the Leave campaign is prepared to take with the jobs and livelihoods of British workers.
"From car manufacturing, to high-tech industry, to financial services, companies from all over the world choose to come to Britain because we are a gateway to the European Single Market.
"Britain is better off in Europe. Our access to the Single Market brings us jobs, growth and investment. Leaving the EU, and leaving the Single Market, would put that at risk.”
