Justin Madders MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, commenting on NHS England’s combined performance summary for April 2016, said:

“These figures pass a damning judgement on the Tory Government’s stewardship of the NHS.

“The last Labour Government dramatically reduced NHS waiting times and got waiting lists down to a record low, thanks to record investment and the hard work of dedicated staff.

“After six years of the Tories that progress has been ripped up. Ministers’ failure to adequately fund and staff the NHS means we are now back to the bad old days of sick patients stuck for months on end on ever lengthening waiting lists.

“It’s time Ministers stopped ignoring the growing crisis facing our hospitals, and took urgent action to undo the damage they have done.”
