Tom Watson: If we Remain in the EU we can create more than a million new jobs
In a speech today (15 June) Labour’s Deputy Leader Tom Watson will argue that staying in the European Union has the potential to create more than a million new jobs by 2030.
Over three million British jobs are linked to UK exports to the EU. UK jobs and businesses large and small are dependent on trade with Europe.
The EU is the largest single market in the world and over 200,000 British companies export to the EU without having to pay any tariffs.
Speaking in London Tom Watson will argue that future EU trade could create over a million more jobs by 2030 by opening up markets in digital services, energy and tourism. This is the positive alternative to Tory Brexit which will harm our economy and put jobs and public services at risk.
In his speech Tom Watson MP will say:
“Labour is clear that the UK’s membership of the EU is good for jobs and good for British workers.
“We are united in campaigning for Britain to remain in Europe. That’s because Labour values are at the heart of this campaign.
“We believe in standing up for working people whose jobs and communities depend on trade with Europe. We believe in standing up for the rights of everyone to be treated fairly at work – and for the rights at work that are guaranteed by our membership of the European Union.
“And we believe in the positive role our membership of the EU can play in the future – the more than a million new jobs our economy has the potential to generate if we remain in the European Union, helping to provide opportunities for the next generation.”
