Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State, responding to the publication of the Carter Review into initial teacher training, said:
“Labour believes that all teachers should have access to training and support which makes them better teachers and so we broadly welcome the Carter Review and its recommendations on how to achieve this.
“However, it is puzzling that the Government has refused to make behavioural management a mandatory part of teacher training, especially as this was a Tory manifesto commitment.
“New teachers especially need the right training and support to help them manage behaviour in classrooms and I would urge the Government to look at this again.”
