This report is a damning indictment of unscrupulous “Victorian” employment practices - Jon Trickett

Jon Trickett MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, commenting on today’s BIS Select Committee report into employment practices at Sports Direct, said:

“This report is a damning indictment of unscrupulous “Victorian” employment practices. The Tory Government has utterly failed to protect ordinary people from systematic exploitation. Good businesses who do the right thing by their employees are being undermined.

“A Labour Government would increase the number of minimum wage inspectors to catch and prosecute rogue employers. Labour will also be publishing proposals in due course to make it easier and more affordable for workers to bring cases of exploitation and discrimination to employment tribunals. In the coming months we will be talking to business and trade unions about how we might consign such practices to history.”
