Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, responding to the job losses at Lloyds Bank, said:
“The announcement of these job losses on such a large scale is a terrible blow to the already uncertain economic landscape. My thoughts go out to the many people who are now unfairly burdened with worries and anxieties about the future.”
"It is disgraceful that these job losses should be made by a bank that has doubled its annual profit. Customers from homeowners to small businesses know the value of bank branches, but Lloyds is planning to make huge further closures.”
“The provision of banking facilities within many communities is set to shrink even further leaving many areas with no access to banking at all. At the same time pay day lenders and high interest lending facilities are sprouting up to fill their place, feeding the bubble of household debt which is growing higher nationally by the day.”
“We need a banking system that is fair to its staff, and delivers for its customers. And we need a government that can stabilise the economy in the wake of the vote to Leave.”
“Labour offers a way forward to transform the economy and transform Britain. Only last week, the Shadow Chancellor announced our plans to mobilise £500bn of investment to generate jobs and build an economy where no-one is left behind.”
