Jo Stevens MP, Labour’s Shadow Solicitor General, responding to an Ofsted report into Medway Secure Training Centre, said: 

“Today’s appalling Ofsted report on Medway Secure Training Centre is shameful, encapsulating everything that is wrong with the approach to children and youth detention facilities.

“It finds that Medway’s leadership is inadequate, as is the care and safety of children there.

“After sustained pressure from Labour, the Government finally accepted earlier this year that G4S should no longer run the centre but this absolutely damning report requires immediate and wide ranging action by the National Offender Management Service and the Ministry to Justice to deal with the issues so starkly highlighted.”
