The findings of this report clearly show that women of the Muslim faith are facing systematic discrimination – Angela Rayner

Responding to the House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee report into Employment opportunities for Muslims in the UK, Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary said:

“The findings of this report clearly show that women of the Muslim faith are facing systematic discrimination.  The Government must immediately develop an action plan to tackle the disadvantages which the majority of Muslim women experience. Unless we take action we are turning our backs on the huge range of really diverse skills and talents which Muslim women can bring to our society, which could benefit people of all races.

"There is no excuse for Muslim women to be three times more likely to be unemployed than white Christian women, despite having reached the same educational level and language skills. That is straightforward discrimination which demands action.

"The Government must fulfil its existing pledge on name blind recruitment and do more to encourage the private sector to implement similar processes aimed at stamping out the triple discrimination Muslim women face. The Prime Minister must fulfil her promise of creating a more inclusive society for all.”
