Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, responding to today’s ONS construction figures, said:
“The continued decline in construction figures again
highlights the Tories’ failed plan for our economy. Britain is crying out for
investment in infrastructure and housing yet these figures show construction
falling by 0.9% in just one month.
"The Tory government should have been investing in our economy but in the
last Parliament fewer new homes were built than under any previous
peacetime government since the 1920s. It doesn’t matter which Tory Chancellor
is in Number 11 – it’s clear the Conservative Party’s economic approach has
failed.
“The country needs a different plan that will end austerity, and start to invest in the infrastructure and housing a 21st century economy demands. That’s why Labour would invest £500 billion to rebuild and transform our economy.”
