If Theresa May is serious about supporting working people we need to see serious action on tackling low &  and investing in the high-skilled, high-wage jobs our economy needs - Abrahams

Debbie Abrahams, Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on today’s ONS UK Labour Market statistics, said:

“It is welcome that there has been a fall in unemployment.  However, under the Tories our economy is over-reliant on low paid insecure work, with sluggish long term pay growth and employment rates regionally unbalanced. For some groups, for example, disabled people, the employment gap is actually increasing.

“If Theresa May is serious about supporting working people we need to see serious action on tackling low pay and investing in the high-skilled, high-wage jobs our economy needs.

“A first step will be for Theresa May to adopt Labour’s call for a full reversal of the cuts to Universal Credit that will result in 2.5 million working families being left over £2,100 year worse off.”
