TUC report demonstrates that the Tories have no real strategy when it comes to race equality - Angela Rayner

Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, responding to a study by the TUC showing that Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) workers are a third more likely than white workers to be underemployed, said:

“The Prime Minister claims that she wants to build a more inclusive society for all, but this report demonstrates that the Tories have no real strategy when it comes to race equality.

“It is imperative that ministers now develop a comprehensive action plan to tackle the shocking levels of discrimination and disadvantage faced by BAME workers. The Government should also fulfil its existing pledge on name blind recruitment and do more to encourage the private sector to implement similar processes.

“If action is not taken urgently, we risk  turning our backs on the huge range of diverse skills and talents which BAME individuals can bring to our society and our economy.“
