I welcome the Government's decision to carry out an inquiry into how David Cameron's discredited resignation honours list was leaked - Tom Watson

Tom Watson MP, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, commenting on Cabinet Office confirmation that the Government has acceded to his demand for an investigation into the leak of the recent honours list, said:

“I welcome the Government’s decision to carry out an inquiry into how David Cameron’s discredited resignation honours list was leaked. I wrote to the Prime Minister at the start of the month asking her to set up the inquiry and it is now vital that civil servants, ministers and Special Advisers cooperate fully with the investigation.

"David Cameron’s decision to hand out honours to so many of his closest friends and allies undermines confidence in the honours system, but the fact confidential information was handed to the media before it was publicly announced raises serious questions about the conduct of those who work at the heart of Government.”
