Kate Osamor MP, Labour’s Shadow International Development Secretary, following criticism by Oxfam of the UK’s failure to ban the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia despite Yemen humanitarian crisis, said:
“The Tory Government’s persistent refusal to ensure that British weapons aren’t used in the brutal bombing of civilian areas in Yemen is very disturbing. It is a violation of the international arms trade treaty which is harming the very people the treaty is designed to protect.
“The Government needs to start taking responsibility for the consequence of selling arms to Saudi Arabia, it cannot allow the flagrant abuses of humanitarian law in Yemen to continue. Theresa May needs to stop shirking her responsibilities under international law and start putting human rights before profit.”
