Clive Lewis MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, responding to the publication of the House of Commons Defence Committee’s report on UK military operations in Syria and Iraq, said:
“With the breakdown of yet another ceasefire agreement in Syria, this report is a timely reminder that success in the fight against Daesh ultimately depends on more than military force alone. Despite this, progress in addressing the deep-seated political, economic and humanitarian crises in the region is still too far behind the curve.
“With piecemeal and largely improvised approaches continuing to hold back further progress in the campaign as a whole, this thoughtful and judicious report provides an opportunity for the Government to consider its wider approach to tackling the underlying drivers of conflict in Syria and Iraq.”
