Kate Osamor MP, Labour’s Shadow International Development Secretary, responding to Priti Patel’s plans to abandon the 0.7% aid commitment, said:
“Priti Patel has let the cat out of the bag with her comments that she trying to abandon her Government’s promise give 0.7% of UK GDP for international aid. The Prime Minister must immediately make clear that she has no intention of breaking her party’s legal obligation and their manifesto commitment to provide 0.7% to international aid.
“Either Priti Patel makes clear that she will support and fully
implement the 0.7% commitment or the Prime Minister must pull her into line.
“UK aid helps tens of thousands of the poorest people around the world, it has
universal cross party support in Parliament, and the UK public overwhelming
backs it.”
