Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, responding to today’s Resolution Foundation report which predicts Brexit could limit National Living Wage growth, said:
“The uncertainty caused by the lack of a plan for Brexit from the Government is unravelling further and further by the day.
"This prediction that we will see a smaller living wage rise next year is bad news for workers who are already worried about their future due to a chaotic Tory Brexit and the impact this could have on our economy.
"The Tories need to get a grip and at the very least set out their objectives for Brexit. That’s why Labour has today called on the Tory Government to hold a vote in Parliament on any plans put forward for Brexit before Article 50 is triggered.
“Confirming they will fight for access to the single market would be a good start otherwise we’re going to be in serious economic trouble.
“Instead of Tory spin, Labour’s real living wage will end poverty pay in Britain.”
