Yasmin Qureshi MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Minister, responding to the death of an inmate at HMP Pentonville, said:

“This death is the latest in a series of increasing incidents of violence in our prison system. This morning prison governors have renewed their call for a public inquiry into prison violence - and Labour fully support that demand.

“The Justice Secretary would be failing in her duty to the whole prison system if she does not listen to the people on the frontline and overwhelming evidence that our prisons are at crisis point.”
