Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, responding to the ONS monthly public finance figures, which show that borrowing has increased compared to this time last year, said:
“These figures further underline the failure of the Tories to manage the public finances after six years of austerity.
"They have failed to meet their own deficit targets, and have left our economy exposed to the economic effects of the referendum result with their shambolic Brexit plans.
"In contrast, Labour has consistently called for increased investment in our economy, and for us to maintain full access to the single market, in order that we are better placed to protect jobs and family incomes, so that no one and no community is left behind.”
