Chi Onwurah MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Industrial Strategy, commenting on a SPERI manufacturing report, said:
“Making and building things has to be at the heart of Britain’s post Brexit future but the decline in wages and job quality in British manufacturing shows the Government has no industrial strategy for it.
“We were told the Tories had an economic plan, but this is the latest demonstration that the Conservatives can never be the party of working people. They have simultaneously lumbered this country with poorer jobs while starving communities through austerity.
“Our manufacturing renaissance should be built on well paid jobs and rising productivity but this report shows the reverse is true. The Tories are not rebalancing our economy but entrenching low pay, low skill short terminsm.
“Only Labour has an industrial strategy which can provide better jobs, empower working people and support British business.”
