Justin Madders MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, responding to reports that Tory MP Owen Paterson is to question the future of the NHS in a speech on Monday evening, said:
“The last Labour Government dramatically improved the NHS with public satisfaction at a record high and waiting lists at a record low. It was also internationally recognised as one of the most efficient systems in the world”.
"The NHS is one of this country’s greatest achievements. It is the envy of the world, but is being repeatedly undermined by this Tory Government’s failed policies.
"Over the last six years they have cut social care, picked a fight with junior doctors and student nurses, and let hospital finances spiral out of control.
"Rather than listening to the views of right-wing Tory backbenchers, Ministers should be putting patients first and taking action to repair the damage they have done to healthcare in this country.”
