Yasmin Qureshi MP, Shadow Justice Minister, responding to the release of the RSA’s report ‘A Matter of Conviction’, said:

“This is the latest in a long line of reports which highlight the crisis that has developed in our prisons under the Tories, while all the Justice Secretary can do is repeatedly promise she will set out plans in the coming weeks.

“The RSA says investment in staffing is urgently needed to reduce security and safety risks, but what the Government has committed comes nowhere near what is actually needed to address the problems.

“Liz Truss needs to urgently address the Tory prisons crisis which is only getting worse under her watch.”
