Debbie
Abrahams MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, commenting on
today’s ONS earnings and low pay statistics, said:
“The ONS figures today are yet more disappointing news for working people, with
real earnings still below their pre-recession peak in 2008 and the number of
people stuck in low paid jobs increasing by 66 per cent on last year.
“When taken with figures earlier this month showing the rate of earnings growth slowing since April this year, it is clear that the Tories are failing on making work pay.
“The country deserves better than low pay and insecurity; the Government has no answers and no plan for working people and for the UK economy. Only a Labour Government will stand up for working people and build a fairer economy that works for all.”
