Providing PrEP makes total sense from an equalities perspective and is also cost-effective - Sharon Hodgson

Sharon Hodgson MP, Shadow Minister for Public Health, responding to the result in the pre-exposure prophylaxis drug - known as PrEP case, said:

“The right and fair decision has been made today.

“Providing PrEP makes total sense from an equalities perspective and is also cost-effective, with prevention costing much less that the treatment of HIV once contracted.

“The number of people living with HIV in the UK remains high and this decision is an important step towards ensuring rates of HIV contraction decrease. NHS England now needs to take the decision to provide PrEP and ensure it becomes available as soon as possible.  No high risk individuals should be denied this ground breaking drug.”
