Keir Starmer, Shadow Brexit Secretary, responding to the leaked memo published today in The Times, said:

“Whatever the purpose of this memo, it is absolutely right about two things. First, the Government are in a mess over Brexit and do not have a plan.

“Second, the way Theresa May is handling this process shows that, just like her predecessor, she is putting the interests of her party before those of her country.

“Brexit is the most important issue facing Britain for generations and it is simply not good enough for the Government to give mixed messages and cause unnecessary confusion.

“Labour is clear - we need certainty, stability and a Brexit plan that puts jobs and the economy first.”
