The Tories must not allow their cavalier attitude towards climate change to undermine the aviation sector – Andy McDonald

Andy McDonald MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, responding to the Committee on Climate Changes’ warning that plans to expand Heathrow Airport are set to breach the government’s climate change laws, said:

“The Committee on Climate Change’s intervention raises serious questions about the UK’s climate change obligations.

“Labour have been clear that we support airport expansion so long as the proposal meets our four tests.

“It is plausible the government could deliver additional capacity and meet our climate change obligations but there needs to be a credible policy framework to make this happen. Instead there is a policy vacuum.

“On sustainable alternative fuels and support for our green energy industries, the Government have failed to act. The Tories must not allow their cavalier attitude towards climate change to undermine the aviation sector.”
