Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) results released today, said:

“These results are thanks to the hard work of teachers and pupils and they should be very proud of all they have done for our country’s reputation abroad. 

“They have managed this in the face of the Tory Government’s constant chopping and changing to exams, school structures and the curriculum.

“We can and have made great progress in education through a mixed-ability system. Tory plans to bring back grammar schools put these achievements at grave risk.”
