Sarah Champion responds to Home Affairs Select Committee report on FGM
Sarah Champion MP, Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, commenting on the Government’s response to the Home Affairs Select Committee’s report on Female Genital Mutilation, said:
“Labour has longed campaigned for better access to good quality PSHE and Sex and Relationships Education in schools and it is welcome that the Government are finally beginning to acknowledge this.
“However it is deeply disappointing that the Tories have not taken on board the Committee’s other recommendations which seek to protect more women and girls from this horrific crime.
“It is the Government’s duty to listen to the evidence and use it to ensure all children are safe and prepared for the challenges of adulthood. Warm words are not enough.”
