The Tories’ principle that work will always pay under Universal Credit has failed - Margaret Greenwood

Margaret Greenwood MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Employment, responding to the Universal Credit statistics out today, said:

“The Tories’ principle that work will always pay under Universal Credit has failed. The increasing numbers of working people in receipt of Universal Credit show just how many workers are forced to rely on the social security system to make ends meet. Low pay and insecure work are endemic in our economy.

"The cuts to Universal Credit introduced by the Tories mean some families will be an average of £2,300 a year worse off. Labour is calling for a full reversal of the cuts to Universal Credit Work Allowances, to restore the important principle, abandoned by this Government, that work will always pay."
