The Government urgently need to bring forward plans to review the support young carers need and how local councils can provide it - Teresa Pearce

Teresa Pearce MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, commenting on new research for the Children’s Commissioner for England on support for young carers, said:

“Carers play a vital role in our society supporting our most vulnerable, but these figures show that there is a vast shortfall in those providing care and those receiving support to do so from their local council.

"Funding cuts to local services mean local councils are having to make tough decisions about what support is available. But too many young carers are being left without the support they need and many local services find it difficult identifying young carers.

"The Government urgently need to bring forward plans to review the support young carers need and how local councils can provide it.”
