Baroness Shami Chakrabarti, Labour’s Shadow Attorney General, responding to the Attorney General’s announcement concerning the legal basis for British military strikes against terror targets overseas, said:

“It is a fundamental principle that all governments make the safety of their citizens their first priority but it is vital that all UK military and security action complies with both domestic and international law. Such law cannot be "updated” or modified simply by making speeches or for expedience alone.“
