Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on the school performance tables released today, said:
“Many schools are performing well and should be congratulated on their successes. We should not forget that schools have managed this despite the Government constantly moving the goal posts.
“However we cannot ignore that almost 300 schools are failing and the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers is widening.
“Tory plans to open more grammar schools will drive this gap even further apart, and their reckless handling of our existing schools system has led to teacher shortages, massive cuts to school budgets and class sizes which are too big .
"The Tories have no plan on how they will deliver an excellent education for all our children. They are failing an entire generation on which our country’s future depends.”
