Christina Rees MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Minister, speaking in response to the statement by Baroness Newlove, the Victims’ Commissioner, said:

“This is a damning indictment of a Tory Government that is letting the victims of crime down.

“Despite promising a Victims’ Law in 2015, the Conservatives have dragged their feet ever since.

“Labour will keep pressing for the rights of victims to be enshrined in law so that every victim can make a personal statement when in court.

“It’s time the Government lived up to its promises.”
