Lisa Nandy MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Young Families, responding to today’s report on children in care, said:
“It is right to make sure the police and councils know when vulnerable children are placed in their communities. However, today’s announcement from Michael Gove does nothing to tackle the astonishingly high number of children under David Cameron’s government who are sent to live miles from home. Some children may need to be placed away from their abusers for their own safety but for many others this is a case of out of sight, out of mind. Today’s report demonstrates the pressing need for action to stop vulnerable children being sent miles from home, leaving them lonely, frightened and open to abuse.”
