Jim Murphy MP, Labour’s Shadow Defence Secretary, responding to reports of MOD savings having lead to Camp Bastion disaster, said:
“The MOD appears to have put savings above the security of our Forces and those of our primary allies.
"It is unacceptable that there has not been an investigation and full accountability for what seems like the most serious of security failings.
"It would be totally unacceptable if the Government has broken its promise to ringfence operations in Afghanistan. Repeated promises to protect the frontline would be shattered and there are real questions that must be urgently answered by Ministers. We must know whether Ministers had any role in the decision making process which led to a failure to protect British forces.
"Camp Bastion is the home to thousands of British service personnel whose safety and security must be the utmost priority and never compromised.”
