Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on HM Inspector of Prisons report on HMP Oakwood, said:   “This is a shocking inspection report of this G4S run prison. It raises huge questions whether Oakwood prison should have been allowed to open and take prisoners when it did. There is a strong suspicion that Oakwood prison was rushed into service against the advice of officials and experts, putting safety at risk.   “It is hardly a surprise that the Government has failed in its much trumpeted rehabilitation revolution when this has been allowed to happen at Oakwood. Chris Grayling’s flagship prison has a massive drugs problem, appalling levels of violence with prisoners locked in their cells and is failing to deliver the rehabilitation the public expects. It is truly astonishing that David Cameron’s out-of-touch Government has boasted that Oakwood Prison is their blueprint for how the rest of the prisons system should be run.”   Ends
