Chris Leslie MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, responding to NIESR’s GDP estimate for the third quarter of 2013, said:

“After three wasted years of flatlining it’s good that we finally have some growth. But for millions of working people still seeing prices rising faster than wages this is no recovery at all.

“To catch up all the lost ground since George Osborne became Chancellor we need to see 1.4 per cent growth every quarter between now and the next election.

“Instead of more complacency from this Chancellor we need action to secure a stronger recovery that catches up all the lost ground and sees rising living standards for the many, not just a few at the top.”
