Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on today’s launch of the report ‘Rebalancing the Scales: Prioritising the Victims of Crime in the Criminal Justice System’, said:
“David Cameron has shown himself time and again to be out of touch with innocent victims of crime. The Government’s toothless Victims’ Code will do little to protect the rights of victims, instead it will be shoved in a drawer and ignored.
“That’s why it’s left to Labour to champion the rights of victims and witnesses. Only as a result of our commitment to introduce a Victims’ Law will we get the culture change we so desperately need across our courts, probation and prosecution systems. Victims and witnesses will, for the first time, have clear enforceable rights ensuring our criminal justice system treats victims with the proper dignity and respect they deserve.”
