Diana Johnson MP, Labour’s Shadow Crime and Security Minister, commenting on the fact that drugs seizures by Police Forces fell nine per cent last year, said:
“This nine per cent fall in drug seizures to their lowest level since 2005 is shocking. If we take out seizures of recently criminalised ‘legal highs’ the fall would be even worse.
“The fall is greatest amongst drugs that cause the most psychological harm – including heroin and crack cocaine. The Home Secretary must take the dangers presented by these drugs seriously. When the Government is cutting 15,000 police officers these seizure figures should be a wake-up call.”
