Lisa Nandy MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Civil Society, responding to a report by the Committee on Standards in Public Life criticising the Government’s Lobbying Bill, said:
“Labour has repeatedly warned that David Cameron’s Lobbying Bill is a bad piece of legislation that will make things worse not better.
“The Bill in its current form will only cover one per cent of lobbying activity and would let the tobacco lobbyist and David Cameron’s chief adviser, Lynton Crosby, off the hook whilst gagging charities and campaigners. No wonder the public thinks the Prime Minister stands up for the wrong people.
“David Cameron needs to heed the warnings of the independent Committee on Standards in Public Life and rewrite this Bill so that it properly regulates the lobbying industry, doesn’t attack charities and takes the big money out of politics.”
