Andy Burnham MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, response to the Royal College of Nursing report Running the red light on 20,000 unfilled nursing jobs, said:
“This report shines a spotlight on the true extent of understaffing in the NHS. David Cameron has left the NHS facing an A&E crisis with thousands of fewer nurses.
“Labour is committed to safe staffing levels in hospitals based on expert advice. Ministers will soon have to answer to Parliament for their failure to listen to recommendations on nursing this year.
“David Cameron is making matters worse. We should be bringing on the next generation of British nurses, but he’s cutting trainee nurse posts whilst wasting money on overseas recruitment. It is more proof that you can’t trust the Tories with the NHS.”
