Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on IMB report into HMP Brixton, said:
“This report is yet another damning indictment of the Government’s rehabilitation revolution. It shows why those who work in and use the justice system are losing confidence in this out-of-touch Government.
“The report is scathing about staff cuts and new initiatives being imposed by the Justice Secretary from Whitehall. It is staggering how readily available drugs and mobile phones are in the prison. Meanwhile, the accommodation and facilities are inadequate and there are no work or training opportunities.
“Six weeks ago Chris Grayling’s blueprint for prisons, HMP Oakwood, was damned by the Prisons Inspector and today his flagship resettlement project has been undermined by this report. His plans for our prison system are in tatters.”
