Shabana Mahmood MP, Shadow Treasury Minister, responding to David Cameron’s comments ruling out tax cuts for middle income families until the end of the decade, said:
“David Cameron says there will be no tax cuts for ordinary families yet he has chosen to give a tax cut this year to people earning over £150,000. And people on middle and lower incomes have been forced to pay more while prices continue to rise faster than wages.
"We need urgent action to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and deliver rising living standards for all. Labour would help ordinary families by freezing energy bills and expanding free childcare. And we have called for a lower 10p starting rate of tax which would help 24 million working people.
"But David Cameron and George Osborne have shown they are totally out of touch and only stand up for a privileged few.”
