Julie Elliott MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Minister, commenting ahead of the publication of the Committee on Climate Change’s Review of the Fourth Carbon Budget, said:
“At this crucial stage the Government must not water down its carbon reduction commitments. Labour has been clear that we need to set a 2030 power sector decarbonisation target now, to give businesses the confidence and certainty they need to invest in vital new energy infrastructure.
“David Cameron promised to lead the ‘greenest government ever’ but he will be judged on his record on green energy investment - which is that it has halved on his watch. If Government wants to reverse the disastrous decline in investment in clean energy and ensure we meet our legally binding climate targets, they must ensure the Fourth Carbon Budget is implemented.”
